Hi All,
I have found this forum to be of great use with my own SOWP application and would like to share my experience and seek further information please. I am from the UK and British citizen from birth (British Indian). I recently married my Russia wife in October 2020. We have known each other since Feb 2019 and have never lived together. Over the past 2 years we’ve approximately 30% of that time together, in England, Russia and on our holidays.
Brief background, my wife recently moved to Canada on an intra company closed work visa. Under Noc O. Her visa is for a 3 year period and she is classed as a temporary worker in Canada. Her company’s immigration lawyers initiated my SOWP as soon as she landed in Canada, in February 2021.
I discovered through this forum that I should have given details of my DUI from 2003, where I was given a 9 month driving ban and £100 fine. I was under the impression that I didn’t have to disclose it due to the Rehabilitation Act 1974. So the lawyers then advised they could try to remedy my error as it amounted to a misrepresentation, but they had a charge of 3500 CAD for doing so. I decided to remove them as my representatives and took ownership of my application by creating a GC Key. I followed the lawyers instructions before removing them, which was; In March 2021, I completed a new IMM 1295 form and the needed IMM 5257 form(I have travelled extensively over the last 10 years but not lived outside the UK for more than 6 months) I forwarded these documents by webform and by email to the Canada High Commission in London too. I received confirmation that the documents had been attached to my file. At the same time, I also supplied details and documents of my DUI conviction. I wrote a letter of explanation and supplied 3 reference letters supporting my good character, along confirmation from my employer that I worked for them for the past 14 years.
I then received a response on 24 March, the IRCC requested evidence of my marriage and what they expected. Note, they already had my marriage certificate (translated from Russia) at the time of the application. I supplied about 200 photos, my marriage photos and our time together in the various countries we have holidayed along with a whatsapp chat history and a joint life insurance document.
On 9 April my application was approved.
Time line;
Application 5 Feb 21
Biometrics 23 Feb 21
Further marriage evidence supplied 25 Mar 21
Approved 9 Apr 21
My question do I need a TA (travel authorisation) / written confirmation? I am confused whether I require a separate TA (travel authorisation) or if the eTA supplied on 9 April is sufficient. I noted comments on here mainly answer people are from Indian and was wondering if there is anyone from the UK too or from a visa exempt country.
I have been supplied a correspondence (Port of entry) letter along with biometrics letter. (The 2nd page of the correspondence letter details that an eTA was also supplied/granted).
From what I read, I am classed as a Traveller coming from outside the US who is exempt from travel restrictions, being an immediate family member of a temporary foreign worker. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...id19/visitors/immediate-family.html#temporary
From this link it states; I quote, If you’re travelling to Canada from a country other than the US
If you’re travelling from a country other than the US, you must have written authorization from IRCC to fly to Canada.
The written authorization is a one-time use authorization confirming that you’re exempt from the travel restrictions. It’s valid only for the period needed to travel.
Then when I check ‘How to request a written authorisation from IRCC’ and see the option, ‘If you have an eTA or need one to travel’ to submit a webform to request it. Would this result in another eTA being provided with written confirmation for me to travel and that I can travel as being exempt.

When I select for eTA applicants https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ervices/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/eta.html
It brings up ‘New requirements to travel to Canada’ as of February 21, 2021.
So I don’t want to request another eTA if I already have one?
Your response would be very much appreciated.
