Dear User,

I am in need of help for my cousin brother, he is 22 years old. I am attaching his profile below for your reference.

Please suggest:
1) What are chances for me to get admission in Masters program for Electrical Engg. in power for Spring 2017?
What is the right way to approach universities for Masters program.
2) Will my IELTS score be hurdle in getting admission?
3) I have heard that getting job after Masters in very tough in comparison with PG Diploma in Canada, is it true?
4) What are the chances of getting student visa.. what should he do to get Canada Student visa.

This is his profile:

IELTS: Band 6.0

Academics
Diploma: 3 Years after 10th. CGPA 8.3. No Backlog 2010-2013
B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering: CGPA 7.9 No Backlog 2013-2016

Please help with your views.
Thank you for your help!

2) Ideally you should score 6.5 in each of the four categories. If you have any scores below 6, I would not apply until you retake IELTS.
3) This is a lie told by consultants who are paid money for recruiting students for colleges. Job prospects are HIGHER with a Masters.

I am fairly new to Canada (been in Toronto for a month only), my housemate did his Master's from one of the good Uni here and we have lot of discussion about job scene here vis-a-vis Masters/ Diploma (UG/PG) etc and one thing that he's told me is that getting a job only on the basis of your qualification (be it Master's) is tough. If you have prior experience in the related field your chances of getting job is much higher than freshers. Freshers of any denomination get chance when there aren't any choices for employers. Sounds quite logical to me as why would an employer hire a rookie with fancy tags when he can easily find a fancy tagged one with some experience. Saves him a lot in training costs and there's no substitute for hands-on guys. Cheers

I was born in Canada and I've lived in Toronto my entire life. I work in the financial services industry for one of Canada's big five banks - and have been in the industry for 20 years. I've been hiring for banking positions for over 15 years. I agree there is no substitute for experience. However UG/PG have no value for me and I pretty much ignore them on resumes. A Masters from a good university in Canada is an entirely different matter and gets my attention. I have hired people who have Masters with no experience. I have never hired someone with a UG/PG and no work experience.

Oh - and just to add... the OP was asking about Engineering. For engineering, a Masters is a much better option from an employment perspective than a college diploma. It's a no-brainer.

I guess financial services is not the only industry in canadian job market. My housemate is an engineer and I wanted to highlight his pov only.

LOL, I never meant to offend or challenge your high rise pedestal. omg.

Oh - and just to add.... Suddenly you are an expert in engineering also. As per your assertion of being born and lived in toronto all your life your timeline of landing on 05-10-2010 is saying it otherwise. pardon me for this no brainer.
