Hello all,
This forum has been very helpful to me. Pretty much my last question in this forum, would anyone know if it is mandatory to have a citizenship certificate before applying for a Canadian passport?

Thanks

Yes, you need to have the citizenship certificate first.

Yes , please check the Link below

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...n-passports/new-adult-passport/apply-how.html

Gather all necessary documents and get your passport photo
  1. proof of Canadian citizenship (original only)
  2. a document to support your identity.
  3. two identical passport photos (the name and the complete address of the photographer and the date the photos were taken must be included on the back of one of the photos.

Thanks for the link and messages. I was reading through older posts (circa 2019 and earlier) and was wondering if there was a way around getting the certificate.

There is absolutely no way 'around' it. You need the citizenship certificate to apply for a passport, period.

However, you can have both the citizenship certificate dispatched to you urgently (through express courier) AND apply urgently for a passport if you can prove the urgency and can provide evidence like confirmed airline tickets.
