Hi guys,

i'm a new immigrant and was lucky enough to get a job as a QA Analyst. the employer offered me 45k annual salary + benefits. This is a full-time job. I live in Toronto area. Is this the average salary for this position? i did not demand about the salary and accepted whatever they offered as I wanted to move forward.

let me know your thoughts.

Thank you in advance

As a single person, you may struggle to stay a float with this kind of salary!Salary is always subjective and it really depend on your lifestyle preference.Having said that ,in a big city like Torinto ,you have a lot of choices to make.Be happy that you have a descent job and gaining Canadian experience !

$70k per annum and for seniorQA its 90k to 1lakh $

Programmers are paid much higher than software testers........better to learn programming languages side by side

Thanks,

Thank you very much guys for all your inputs. Sigh....the salary is low while Toronto is expensive. Nevertheless, I'm happy because I can now move forward. Atleast it's an IT related job. I worked for about 3 months in customer service, earning minimum and nothing but headaches. So when I got this job, i did not think twice about the salary (though it seems low).

My job includes writing test plans/test scripts, testing, documentation. This is my first IT job in Canada. I guess I have to live with it in the meantime to gain experience and for sure there will be better opportunities in the future.

@jaggy999, does your brother have previous QA experience here in Canada? or is it his first?

Yup.....its a good way to enter and gain exp in IT field....jus do it......u can earn good after a yr or so of exp

My bro does not have prior QA exp.....but he does have workin exp in canada of 2 yrs in bank

Thanks jaggy999. I presume your brother's work in the bank was IT-related somehow? I just want to get a good sense on the salary packages here in Canada for new immigrants. Maybe this thread will be a good reference to new immigrants in the same situation.

No...it was not IT related at all......he did a course in toronto itself......and luckily got a job
