Can I accompany my wife during the interview with the officer and help answer some questions on behalf of her or is it not allowed?

CIC agents interview each applicant separately. This is what I gathered from my experience where one of the couple was called and then the other.

No you cannot. Each person gets interviewed seperately - they will not allow you to answer for her.

If we file our application as a family, then we get interviewed as a couple? if we file our application as separate then?

The bottom line is you can not speak on her behalf. The interview helps the officer to confirm your identity and also assess your language ability. If people are allowed to answer for others, how does the officer determine if the person can communicate in English or French?

The whole point of the interview is to assess if the person can communicate in one of the languages, also the separate interviewing is very effective against Citizenship fraud.. where parties might answer differently to the same questions and voila! show them the exit...

Okay thanks for the information. I did not know that the purpose was to check if applicant can communicate in one of the languages.
