Internship/Master thesis. Visa?

Dear all,

unfortunately I couldn't find a clear answer for my case in the existing threads:

I will write my Master thesis at the ETS in Montreal for 6 months next year. I already got a letter of invitation from the Professor. In the letter he states that he "invites me for a 6-month internship" at the laboratory at the university. And later he states "Your research ...". But he never speaks of Master thesis. Additionally, I am completely self-funded.
Does anybody know for which Visa I should apply? I'm from Germany and as far as I know for studying less than 6 months the tourist visa is enough. Does this also apply to my case?

Hi Frank,

I see that you didn't receive any answer to your question. I am in the same situation now. How did you finally handle this issue? Did you need to apply for a work permit?
