Hello all, I am a Canadian citizen (Quebec resident) and I am currently in the process of sponsoring (inland) my girlfriend for her PR.

I was wondering if it was possible for me to take an internship in the US (12-14 weeks)? I received a great opportunity and it would really suck to lose this chance :(

Thank you all so much

No - not possible since you applied inland. Inland requires you to be cohabitating with your partner in Canada. A short trip would be OK (e.g. 2-3 weeks). Three plus months is far too long.

Your choices are to forget about the internship - or to withdraw the application and reapply outland. If you reapply, processing times will restart from scratch.

Hi, I just want to make sure: does this still apply to me if I am a Canadian citizen? And also my girlfriend is legally my common-law partner (we've been living together for almost 2 years).

Thank you so much

It applies to any "inland" application. If you apply for outland, then you do not need to live with your spouse/common law during the application process.

btw... the average of spousal application is around 1 year. So there's a chance that your application could be completed by July 2020. If the internship is Sept 2020, then there is a high chance of your app being approved. So it depends on when things are done and when is the internship period.

Thank you for this information, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately my internship would be starting in May or June :( I don't want to jeopardize the application so I guess I'll let the internship go. Thank you all for your help

you are so close!!! May be try to get a status update and see if you are almost done?

I know right :( Unfortunately I've heard that Quebec has received a surge in applications (at the time I applied) so theres a big delay :( So I don't think my application will make it in time

Yes - it applies to you. Nothing to do with whether you are a citizen or not. Applying inland requires you to be cohabitating in Canada together.

Hi, thank you all again. I am not very knowledgeable with all this, but I just received CSQ (Certificat de selection du Quebec aka Quebec selection certificate). Does this change anything? Thank you again!
