International students bringing parents

Hi. Can international students bring there parents to canada during the course of study. Which type of visa can the parents come and how long can they stay. Can the parents work during the stay. What all options are there? Plz update all options.

Cant they come in visit visa and stay for a couple of months. Also while in canada can they change their visit visa to work visa if some employer gives a work permit. Is it possible?

Tourist yes, changing to wp - not that easy I presume as otherwise all tourists here will be on wp

Employers of course do not give out work permits only IRCC can do that. Your parents would need to find an employer to support an LMIA application which would cost the employer 1000 dollars plus the cost of advertising the job to ensure no residents were available. This process could take months to process and unless your parents have skills not readily available the odds of success are not great. You being a student would have no influence on the success of such an application so you would probably have to settle for them being just visitors with no work option. Even then no guarantee without a solid case of home country ties of getting a visitor visa.

Length of stay determined at the border but for a visitor application generally not advisable to ask for more than 2-3 weeks and leave to CBSA at the border to either restrict stay or allow a default 6 months.

Yes - they can come for a short stay as a tourist. They should assume it will be impossible to change their status to worker. This requires a job offer and approved LMIA. The LMIA process is very expensive for employers and takes 4-6 months to complete with no guarantee of approval. It's next to impossible to find employers willing to go through the process.
