I am an international student who recently came to Canada in Windsor, ON. I am taking my graduate degree in Human Kinetics and this is my first semester, I hold a study permit.
I have more than 10 years of experience in IT field, I also carry a Masters degree in Engineering from my home country. I know that I can apply for the PGWP after finishing my studies but I want to know if there is any way that I can get my PR instead of waiting for two years or more? This is because I am already 32y and also having my PR will help me in my tuition fees, taking into consideration that I have experience in IT.

Please any steps that might help, tips, programs to apply for would be much appreciated.

You can apply through the FSW / Express Entry program. You'll want to have 480+ points to have a good chance of being selected.

Also if you don’t have a Canadian degree, you will need ECA for your Masters of Engineering, if not yet completed. And valid IELTs scores.

Just a quick questions:
1) FSW is different than the Express Entry?
2) How can FSW help me to achieve my PR? I never heard about it, if you can give me a hint as it seems interesting.
3) Concerning Express Entry, yeah I was thinking of it but how would I know my score?

Thank you again for replying to my concerns.

Yeah I am currently seeking for the canadian degree. My masters is already done and I earned it but from Lebanon. But what is ECA? IELTs am ready to do it once I find the program that fits me.

1) You apply for FSW through Express Entry. Same for CEC.
2) Research here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ces/immigrate-canada/express-entry/works.html
3) See above.

See the link I provided above. It's all there.

Yeah, got the point. This is very helpful thank you.

So I need to raise my points since I did not even reach 400, I have to check if I am eligible to PNP of Ontario, since I am studying in Windsor.
Or to find a job, can I apply for work permit or open work permit even if I am on a study permit? By this ill wait to have one year experience to increase my score. I know I can work 20 hours per week as a student now but it is better to have full time job. Or will this hurt my application in the future?
Sorry for asking a lot. I hope this will be my last question.

- You need 480+ for FSW / Express Entry to be a realistic option.
- Your score is also too low for Ontario. You need 450+ for that.
- So based on the above, you don't have any paths for applying for PR now.
- No, you don't qualify for an open work permit.
- If you want to switch to a closed work permit and stop studying, then you need to find an employer who is willing to give you a job offer, that employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA, and only then will you be able to apply for a closed work permit tied to a specific employer. Once the closed work permit is approved, you can stop studying and work full time.
- Based on the kinds of questions you're asking, you would be best off hiring an immigration lawyer to help you. These are super basic questions to be honest. If you want to figure this out on your own, then you need to dedicate a lot more time to reading the information on the IRCC web site and understanding the programs. Otherwise the lawyer is the way to go.

Alright, so you think a lawyer can help with that or better to finish my studies and wait for the PGWP, since it will be waste of money to have a lawyer now?
Thank you again and have a good evening :))

Unless you can get your score well above 400 (i.e. at least 450, but likely more), I don't see any options for you to apply for PR at this time.

Hello,

Am really sorry for this. I think I made a mistake while I was checking my score, I was not convinced with my previous score and noticed my mistake now my score is 462. So I think I can apply?

Also, if I applied to Express entry and did not enter the draw or did not get any answer, could I apply to other programs through a lawyer? Or preferably to work with a lawyer from the beginning?

This score is too low to be selected through the FSW / Express Entry program. To be selected through that program, you really need to score at least 480. This may be high enough for CEC. However you won't qualify for CEC until after you have completed your studies in Canada and have one year of skilled and full time work experience in Canada after you have completed your studies in Canada. So you are a few years away from CEC being possible.

When calculating your score, make sure you don't claim points for having a job offer in Canada.

OINP could possibly be an option for you depending on the NOC of your work experience.

Using a lawyer doesn't create more options for applying, it just gives you professional help in applying for PR. It's your choice if you work with a lawyer or not. If you don't want to do the research yourself, hire a lawyer.

Yeah I was just checking OINP Human Capital program, I have 10 years of experience in IT as an engineer, still reading more if I can apply to this program since I do not have a job offer here (since am student). I think this is the last option for me to check it, else I have to wait till graduation. Although I wish I can get it now as this will help me with my fees.
