Most school only allow domestic tuition once you are a protected person. You usually don't gave to wait until you are a PR. Not as an asylum claimant but you can always doublecheck
considering they applied last week, how long will it take for us to be declared as protected person?

It depends on how long it takes for them to have their hearing. It could be a number of months or could take over a year.

Regional office
Be ready for at least 2 years.

Acknowledgment of claim means, the officer confirms you have made the claim and are seeking refugee protection. You get a letter that you have made a claim and are covered by Interim Public Federal Health Coverage. After that, you prepare all your documents, but the most important document is the Basis of Claim which is evidence. You have to prove with strong evidence that your parents and your life is in danger and cannot get protection in your home country.

After you fill all your forms, you get invited to come in for office for submission of the forms and they take your fingerprints. After that, you do your medical. Then they invite you for an eligibility interview, which they get you to sign some papers and tell them you need a work permit. After that, you get a golden paper. Then your case gets transferred to the refugee board where they review the evidence and sometimes if your evidence is very strong then they pass the case without a hearing. If your case is not that strong then they will invite you for a hearing in front of a judge. Based on their questions and your answers they might approve or deny the claim.

If they deny then its another process you have to follow

Overall be prepared for a long at least 2 year of waiting

When you get protected person status then you can apply for study permit and get student loan to help pay for your studies

so within this period of time, before getting the protected person status, what will be my options to work and study?

You can apply for a WP if you want to work. If you want to study you'll need ro apply for a study permit and pay international fees. If you can't afford the fees you'll need to put your studies on hold and apply for a WP and work. Do you have proof that your life was at risk in your home country? Based on what you've stated it seems that the threats were directed at your parents after you had left the country. There is a risk that only your parents get approved as protected people. Hopefully you discussed your case with a Canadian immigration lawyer before your family decided to apply for asylum to get an idea about whether your whole family has a good chance of getting approved and the approval rate for asylum cases from your home country. Hopefully you were also given an idea of what type of proof is needed to make your case strong.

you have to pay international students fees and you can apply for work permit in the forms. You will get work permit after you get the golden paper. Your parents can apply for social assistance if they want

As others have said, you can continue studying but will need to pay international student fees. You can work up to 20 hours a week off campus as an international student as long as you continue your studies full time.

If you stop attending school full time, unfortunately this means you will no longer be eligible to work.

so do I qualify for domestic tuition?
your case is very complicated because when you come as international student you had to show you are well settled in your home country you have enough fund so because your dad loss business this is not enough to pass toit claim it’s corona time 85 percent businessman lost there income they struggling so what ever you saying not gonna work refugees case will take easily 3 years minimum before you even get your result 3 years is minimum if judge declined than god knows what will happen you are not entitled for domestic study till your case pass so everything sound complicated chance of your claim pass very low rest good luck

Yes then in this case only they can apply cos he is still safe here they may get approved but his chance in less as asylum seeker unless they threatened him as well .
Its up to the presiding member to decide...based on the evidence and testimony. Not us to decide
