International English Language Tests for FSW applications

Hi guys,

My wife and I are in the process of getting together our application under the Federal Skilled Worker class, and from what we've read it seems now to be compulsory for all applicants to be take the English language proficiency tests and provide proof of this.

We're from England, English is our native language, we both have Bachelors degrees and my wife has a doctorate all exams taken in English as a language, is it really necessary for us to spend £100+ each and do these test or am I just missing something?

Yes, you have to take the IELTS exam. If you do not take CIC will send you letter again to do so.It is compulsory. CIC will not consider you or your wife's higher education when they assess the english language ability. This is completely different issue.There is no exemption of IELTS exam. It is must must must.I hope this helps.

Yes, you must take IELTS now. There used to be an option to prove your proficiency by other means but it is no longer there. The reason it's gone is because it makes it a lot harder for the visa officers to assess your English. So maybe you are born in the UK and you have a UK passport but for all they know, you came from an immigrant family and your English could be lacking, even though you managed to complete your studies in the UK.

Only the principal applicant has to take IELTS though so it's not like you both have to do it.

English may be your native language but according to the new rule u r not getting any advantage. Sit for IELTS ASAP

It is stated clearly that regardless of ur mother tongue, yr educational level or yr medium of instructions for yr education. ALL applicants have to submit ILETS or yr application will not be processed or u will lose out the points for the language proficiency level! SIMPLE AS THAT!

This new rule came into effect from 26 june 2010 onwards. it is not effective on the applications sent in April 2010.
