You get an 'International Driving Permit' in your country & its valid in Canada but for a shorter period, check with the province.

From the information I have gathered, the Indian driving license for students is valid in Canada for a period of 8 months. If you go for an International driving license, it is valid for a year! The difference is only of 4 months for which you will be paying extra. Confirm this information because if it is completely true, you can carry on with your current license. I was looking to obtain an Intl license too and heard this from someone.
