I'm getting frustrated here. I've called a few banks and have been listening to hold music for most of the day - I've spent 40+ minutes on the phone with each institution only to have agents tell me to "use Google" to find a bank that will give life insurance to an individual in the country on a work permit.

As my husband and I want to be insured (neither of us has an existing life insurance policy) I need to find a bank that will allow him to be insured. I've tried Google with several dodgy results and would trust one more if I knew there had been others who have used it. Has anyone had any luck with specific banks that will allow an individual on a work permit to be insured?

A few basic thoughts:
- Don't go to the banks, go right to the big insurance companies. Like Manulife, Canada Life, Sun Life etc.
- Are you getting medical travel insurance now? Can the company giving this to you also offer life insurance?
- If you're working, does your employer offer optional life insurance for its employees?
- try to get a policy from your home country. Many places allow you to do online applications and be approved with no medical or anything you need to do "in person", depending on age/health/coverage

Indeed, some banks do sell insurance through subsidiaries but they are heavily restricted as to how much they can promote their insurance products through their banking operations. It might be why you were told to Google it, however rude that might have seemed.
