MAIN DUTIES :
Insurance adjusters perform some or all of the following duties:
 Investigate circumstances surrounding insurance claims to determine validity of claim
 Inspect automobile, home or other property damage
 Take statements and consult with claimants, accident witnesses, doctors and other relevant individuals
and examine records or reports
 Determine amount of loss or damages covered by insurance policies
 Negotiate settlement of claims
 Prepare adjustment reports.
Insurance claims examiners perform some or all of the following duties:
 Review, examine, calculate and authorize insurance claims investigated by insurance adjusters
 Examine adjusters' reports and similar insurance claims or precedents to determine extent of insurance
coverage
 Ensure claims are valid and settlements are made according to company practices and procedures
 Consult lawyers, doctors or other relevant individuals to discuss insurance claims
 Approve automobile, fire, life, disability, dental or other insurance claims.

hi guys ,

My first post in here. I think this site in general and the seniors in particular are doing a great service to all the potential immigrants by helping them with their queries.So hats off to you guys. now lets get down to business

My wife is also thinking of applying under the 1233 category. I have got a couple of questions

Q1, She was in the customer support department of a very large life insurance company here in Pakistan. Her job title was "customer support executive - client services department" so no mention of the word "claim" any where in there. Having said that, a lot of her job responsibilities however matched what is required from a claim examiner . So can she apply?

Q2, Secondly she has got an MBA degree but no additional insurance related certifications or training . Is that a problem ?

Q3, If the Answer to the above question is Yes, then what does a "claim examiner" need in terms of certification or training to apply for the 1233 category?

Q4, Finally, people who have applied under the category. can they please let me know what is their academic qualification or training /certification which helped them in applying for 1233.

Also a request. Can i please have the work experience reference letter from people who have applied?

for Q2, I don't think this is an issue. As long as she has 1 year of experience doing most of the job duties described in NOC then she should be fine.

for Q4, Again I tell you, CIC does not require that the applicant do insurance claim related trainings or academic qualifications / certification. Although this might help the VO decide better on the case but is not a must. Of course when you land in Canada it will be helpful to have insurance claims related qualifications.

There aren't many choices of academic qualifications for life insurance claims. Most of the trainings are aimed at life insurance in general with another few focusing on underwriting.

Check out www.loma.org and www.claim.org. You can also check out the CLU designation from the American College.
I myself am a Fellow, Life Management Institute and Associate in Insurance Regulatory Compliance and Reinsurance.

Dear Friend,

please get the exp letter form HR dept. & request them to please add the job responsibilities & KRA's.

also request them to mention the date of joining in the reference letter and collect the all ITR's & Salary slip's .

Hello All,

My query is regarding Document Checklist (IMM 5612)

In 5612 some of the points are not applicable to me, so shall I leave them blank or mark them as 'NA'?
I am not using "Use of a representative (IMM 5476)" this does not say "(if applicable)", how should I proceed in this?
I am trying for "Original letters of reference from all your employers for the past 10 years", what should be the format of this document?
What if the company I worked for does not have a website?
Under "Photo Requirements" do I need to include the photos of my family members who are not accompanying me?
Do I need to provide the Police clearance Certificates for my whole family including my parents?

Also please suggest that once I gather my documents, shall I enclose a formal introduction letter to CIO?
The order of the documents should be according to IMM 5612, am I correct? If "yes", then how should I segregate them? Shall I use paper clips for the related documents?

Please assist.
