Hi,

My question is that can I get a SIN with my COPR?
I am an inlander just landed last week but have to wait 4-8 weeks for the PR card come in mail. I applied my OWP along with my application and got granted but their computer system didn't update my new address so it was missing. I could have started working a month ago just because of the mistake they made. The call centre agent told me I could show Service Canada my COPR and they will issue me an SIN but then it seems like I also need the counterfoil visa which I don't have. I desperately need to work right away... Is there anything I can do? Please help...

Yes, the COPR is enough.
Are you visa-exempt? Then you don't get a counterfoil visa anyways.

Yes, I'm from visa exempt.

I am hoping this paper is good enough because of this line:

"Permanent Resident Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This is the only acceptable document if your claim was processed in Canada.

Confirmation of Permanent Residence AND visa counterfoil affixed to a foreign passport or a travel document "

Hmmm...I interpret that the same as you did, but...

...if your `claim' :-\ was processed in Canada.

What `claim'?

Claim = application for permanent residence

But the counterfoil visa is just for non-visa exempt countries.

Yup that is all you need. My wife literally got her SIN number within 5 minutes of landing. In Toronto Pearson airport T1, the SIN counter is next to the landing area. Right after she officially landed, the officer told her to go to the kiosk across from us, present her copy of COPR and get a SIN number right there. And she did.

Is your wife outlander? Why did she land in the airport?

Outland. But whether inland or outland, Your copy of your COPR is enough to get a SIN
