You are right, I just read that. Although, check this one http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp , enter your information, let me know if shows you the same one. When do you plan to send your application? After July 15th?

Also, call to CRA and change your marital status to common law, same for him. I will ask if they can give you any letter that proof the marital status change, and print out the personal information - marital status that appears in your CRA online, where it will say "Common Law.

It may get to them after July 15th (trying to have all answers / panicking done long in advance) :)

Suppose I should err on the side of caution and just use the 5287?
Still leaves me wondering if i have to do the Q's 16-18.

I suppose we buckle down and get it sent quickly, and have it in before the 15th to use the 5289 instead.

(do they use postal stamps as the verification date or when they get it???)

Oh and still shows to use 5589, but gets a big thing at the top about the new form being the 5287

I would recommend you to use the 5589, and send them before July 15th (you are in a good time). There you will need the Notice of Assessment, and his work information.
I am not sure about the "minimum income', how you said, in the 5589 that is not a requirement. Call the IRCC, and ask them, it might not apply to you. Again, I recommend you to use the 5589.

You can send it by courier (I would recommend it), and also you can subscribe the option of getting a text message when they received the package ( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/text-pilot.asp ).

Also, any translations must be certified in your home country, and translate by a certified translator. Birth certificate is a must.

Alright thanks, Finances weren't required with the 5589 if only sponsoring a spouse so, that is easier, not that we couldn't provide the information.

The questions 16-18 on the new IMM5287 I imagine would be the same, but I might call to see anyway.

Also, would calling CRA to change status really do anything while i am visitor status with no SIN? I am not sure how that would work since I have not been working and have not submitted anything (OWP) yet til this application going in.
I will have him call to change his though.

Everything is certified and already in English since I am from the US so, no worries there.

I am not sure about the tax part then, BUT call them, maybe you need to change yours (the US one). He is the one who has to call, they will change it right away. Tell him to ask if he can get any letter or prove of his marital status change, maybe he can say he needs it for immigration purposes.

Your welcome! I really recommend you to use the 5589 checklist, and try to find as much support as you need. Good luck in the process :)
