Hello IIT members,
I needed help with the application of Permanent Residence application for my wife.
She came in Canada as a student and just finished her studies in December 2022. We did our court marriage in November 2022 in Canada only.
I wanted to apply for her PR via family sponsorship under spouse category, but I also wanted to get her Spousal open work permit for the same, so that we can plan our marriage ceremony in our country back home for next year and don't have to worry about PR application time and come back in canada on basis of open work permit.
From my research I found out that once I apply for PR and I receive AOR, only after that I can apply for spouse open work permit. If that is correct then she would only be able to work till her study permit is valid.
I am worried whether the AOR would come on time before the expiry of her study permit, otherwise she would not have any valid status to work in Canada and might have to leave the job.
Is it safer to apply for PR, if I am planning my marriage in next year February month or I should go for work permit based on her student status.
Please guide me and let me know if my question was clear enough, if not I can provide more information to get a solution.
All suggestions are welcome, thank you.
