Inland Spousal Sponsorship Woes

Hi, I've been told I can ask here about some things that have been stressing me to no end with the PR Application.

I have a Temporary Resident Visa that lasts until next September, and have been extending my stay via Temp Res due to a name change that I worry will cause me problems. I should also note I'm immigrating from the United States.

Right before I moved to Canada, I was living in a Transitional Housing Program for Foster Dependents, and through my Social Worker changed my first name, but it only changed on my Birth Certificate, and I didn't have enough time to change anything else before the move.

I have both copies of old and new name Birth Certs, and am currently working on changing my Social Security Card to reflect the name change, I cannot change anything else until this is done. The application for that was sent off about Late May of this year, and I presume my extension is a year because of the US being clogged up in government... Stuff.

I haven't submitted my PR Application yet because I know the fingerprints from the FBI will have a different first name, given they'll use what's on my birth cert (I have a hard time finding if they'll use that or not but I just assume so), and don't want to have the fingerprints have one name, and everything else be under another name. I know there's a portion of the PR Application for aliases, but I am just really stressed about everything.

I want to know if I can even submit the PR now, while things are still changing, or if I should wait, or if at worse, I need to leave and come back once things have changed. I hope I won't need to leave, I don't have much places I can go in the States, if at all. Anyways, that's my situation. I'm going to start looking at the PR application and filling out what I can so when I eventually file it for real I'm not scrambling to get info together, please let me know what I need to do.

First of all...try to relax as best you can. Yes, this can be a very stressful experience, but it can also be a wonderful experience; starting a new chapter of life in Canada!

I suggest that you print out the latest version of the Inland forms, just to familiarize yourself with what will be required...sort of like a practice application, per se. When ready, you must then apply online (as of late last month), as paper applications are no longer accepted. Just read through the forms and instruction guide(s) and take it one question at a time. Make a list of questions and come back here to seek specific answers.

When you do submit the Inland application, be sure to submit an OWP (Open Work Permit) application as soon as you receive the almighty `AOR' from IRCC (Acknowledgment of Receipt). It only means that the application has been received, but it is at that point that you would be eligible for the OWP; no need to extend your visitor status anymore, while you wait for the PR process to be completed.

Howdy! Thanks so much for your response! I apologize for being a mess haha. I wanted to clarify specifically my problem is

I have an ongoing name change that will be reflected when I do my FBI Certificate, but is not yet reflected on my other papers. I just need to know whether or not I should indeed wait to have everything changed, as I've already started to get everything else moving, although it will take goodness knows who long. Or, if I am able to do the PR application now, and provide proof of name change as I am able to.

I took a big long look at the application and everything yesterday, filled out just about all the forms I need to, and was able at the moment, but there's not much mention of what to do in case of a name change, if at all. Thanks for reading!

How long have you been extending your stay? How long have you been in Canada as a visitor?

Currently I've been here since last August, and my last visa was extended for an entire year, until next September. We made a mention of what's going on with the name change and waiting on America to give stuff back, so I presume that's why it got extended for a year. I wanted to see about trying to get a work permit but I can't find out how to do that! The gov't site says I should be eligible, what with a temporary resident visa lasting 6 months or more. But I can't actually get access to the application itself.
