Hi, My spouse is PR and I submitted my inland spousal sponsorship back in 2023 May 30 and I was stuck in background check. In October 2026 I received a job offer that requires me to relocate to Montreal and I moved to Quebec. I notified IRCC that I got a job offer in Quebec and have relocated and gave them my new address using webform. My address was updated in my ircc tracker but I noticed that in the destination section it still says it is "Winnipeg, MB". I have not received any instructions to submit any new documents or do anything. Should I submit another webform to clarify or I am good, and they just simply forgot to update my destination?

You no longer qualify for inland spousal sponsorship and must apply for Quebec spousal sponsorship. If you land under the current application that would be misrepresentation. Is your spouse In Quebec with you?

yes my spouse is in Quebec with me. I asked an immigration lawyer and he told me I am free to move and work in Quebec and it wouldn't affect my application. He was an immigration lawyer outside of Quebec tho. And the Quebec spousal sponsorship is currently closed.

Edit: to add more context, I was in Winnipeg MB when I submitted my application back then, both of me and my spouse. We did intend to live there at the time but jobs were hard to find, the job offer from Quebec was unexpected and we choose to move to Quebec together. I have already passed eligibility, medical and biometrics, it was just background left.

Report the immigration lawyer if they gave you that advice. You can’t live in Quebec and qualify for spousal sponsorship other than in Quebec. You are correct that it is closed at the moment but you need to try to apply when open again.

Hmmm... I did submitted an address update request via webform and it did get changed and IRCC did not request anything from me, should I just wait or should I start preparing documents

You no longer qualify for spousal sponsorship outside Quebec as a Quebec resident. The application should be denied and if it somehow it is missed that you have moved to Quebec you could be later accused of misrepresentation if you land on that spousal sponsorship. Speak to a different immigration lawyer preferably in Quebec and would order GCMS notes to see if address change has been noted. Would report your other immigration lawyer because you were given incorrect advice that is so basic that anyone with some basic knowledge about Canadian immigration should have known.
