Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can help us with a question regarding OWP for the inland common-law sponsorship. My partner came into Canada under the Working Holiday Visa program with an open work permit valid until June 2020. Because we don't know how long the sponsorship application will take (we applied mid September 2019), we want to apply for the OWP to cover in case it goes over. The form IMM5710 gives us four options but we are not sure which one applies to us:
  • Apply for a work permit with the same employer
  • Apply for a work permit for the first time or a new employer
  • Restore my status as a worker
  • Get a new temporary resident permit
He is no trying to change employer but his work permit IS NOT closed or attached to his employer, is an OPEN WORK PERMIT.
Has anyone done this and knows what would apply for sponsorship work permits with a current valid OPW?

Thanks you!!

It's a new work permit.

It's a new work permit.
Thanks for the reply scylla! However the option says a "work permit for the first time" and he already has one. There is no option for just a new work permit alone. It is confusing :(

The forms are generic. They don't have specific wording for every situation. Choose "Apply for a work permit for the first time or a new employer".
