Hello everyone,
Hope all of you are doing great.

I've just made an inland refugee claim and I've got some cash to last for about 10 days.
My question is: Can I get a job while my case is being processed? I have a visitor visa not a work visa.
if so, that'll be OK, but if not, what should I do? what do you recommend me?

Your thoughts, please.

Cheers!

You can't work on a visitor visa. You need to obtain a work permit.

You will need to apply for an open work permit as a refugee claimant. Once that open work permit is approved, you will be able to start working.

Thanks scylla for the prompt reply.

What about community organizations and their role at this period? Do I need to see these organizations for help or advise?

No - it's something you apply for on your own.

As you had made your refugee protection claim your status in Canada is "refugee claimaint" so your visitor visa or visitor status is irrelevant and abondoned. As a refugee claimaint you can apply for a open work permit ( previously/last year it took 15-20 days to get a open work permit but now days the timeline has increased to 3-4 months). Obviously you cannot work in Canada without a work permit and if you work and get caught then it will badly effect your refugee claim. Meanwhile as you are running out of money you should/can apply for welfare which will help you a bit till you get your work permit and start earning.

Applying for work permit is easy you can apply online or send a paper application and it's free of cost. If you don't have computer or printer you can go to service Canada( the same place to get welfare) and use their computer system and printer and they can also help you in finding a job, provide u a letter to open a bank account, language courses, subsidized trade courses, free bus/train pass ...etc etc. I am sure this will help you in a smooth settlement.

Hope it helps

The actual work permit takes about 2-8 weeks to arrive at your home address through canada post.
