Can someone tell me how the fingerprints works ? Beside Canada, the only other country I've ever lived is my home country which in order to apply for my police record they only require my national ID which already contains my fingerprints and all my information. I ask this question cause I see that there is a fingerprint application on the CIC website, saying that you have to send it to every country you have lived for more than 6 months. What does that even mean ?

only some police checks require fingerprints. for example, australia and the Uk dont but the states and RCMP do. Check each country and their procedure for police checks and if they want fingerprints then provide them.

So, it's up to the other country then ? I already have my police certificate from my home country, i received it last week but it expires at the end of the month. The thing is that i'm not in that country and won't be by the time we send our application which will be soon. So, do i still need to get another one, even thought i'm not even there ?

What do you mean "expires"? If you haven't lived there since you got your police check (or for no more than 6 months) then your PCC is still good.

In some countries when you apply for a police certificate, it has expire date. It varies depending on the country. In my case it is only good for a month. But the thing is that i have not been there in a while and won't go until after we send our application. i ask cause the expiration date is printed on the paper.

It doesn't matter what expiry date the PCC says.

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.
