I have the same issue as I have a chinese name as well since birth. But my issue lies with CIC not the medical office so I wrote to CIC to change it in their system, which they did 2 weeks later. I also called to see if they matched my medicals with my file. The agent reassured me its not a concern because they will match it up once an officer is assigned to my case. I hope he is right. And he said it will take 30 days to receive the medicals (my DMP uses emedicals) Also, I did an upfront 5 months after submitting my app. Did you do an upfront or is this after the request for it?

Mine is the request after AIP from CIC. Just hoping it does not raised any red flags. I was told by the clinic it should take 2 weeks for the results to get to CIC. But I am waiting for the police clearance still so... Just concern that the assistant at the medical clinic wrote it that way. Sigh...

You won't get the work permit until after you receive 1st stage approval unfortunately. If you applied in November this is unlikely to be for quite some time. I got first stage approval last week and I applied in March. What kind of permit is your partner currently on?

She is currently on TRV and that is valid for 10 years.

Is it possible to apply for OHIP after getting work permit?

Please let me know.

For those of you who have similar timeline as mine, here is some good news...I just called CIC and was told that they have already mailed my OWP on January 16. Their effort to get things rolling are obvious now!

AOR Received: March 20, 2013
OWP Filed: November 28, 2013
AIP Received: January 13, 2014
OWP Issued: January 16, 2014

I have a similar timeline as SS.Kingston:

AOR Received: March 21, 2013
AIP & DM: January 13, 2014
OWP Issued: January 13, 2014
OWP Received: January 20, 2014

Guri, please add the OWP received date on my profile. Thank you.
Good luck to everyone waiting. I believe CIC is still working hard for all of us. ;)

OHIP QUESTION - When can my husband apply for OHIP? After he receives his OWP? Ugh so confusing!
How would we go about applying for it?

We received AIP Nov 13/13 OWP was sent Dec 27/13

It shouldn't be too long then. Try to call them every week and ask for a status update. (That's what I would do)

;)

Congratulations! You must have just received the OWP in mail today! So it took a week to get to your mailbox then?

Hi guys! :)
I finally decided to call the CIC call centre. The guy I spoke with was very nice.. Yay! He told me that they see they sent out the OWP on the 8th this month, and unfortunately it was to our old address. I'm still yet to hear back from the landlord we rented the place at, so hopefully we can get it all sorted. I even called Canada post, but she told me she couldn't find anything.

So if we don't get the OWP the next time they will be able to send it out is on feb 19th.. Bah! I just hope the new tenants didn't just toss it away that would make me slightly ticked off!

I got my OHIP right after receiving AIP on Jan 15. My situation is kinda different. I was on post-graduate work permit until Nov 5 last year. Therefore, I had OHIP all the way until then. Then I tried to get another work permit with the same employer, but it was refused due to late LMO submission. Since OHIP has the policy of - if renewed within 90 days of expiry, no waiting period is necessary. So I was able to continue my OHIP without waiting for another 3 months.

If you google "Ontario Health Insurance Coverage Document List" (sorry I'm not allowed to post links here), and read the last bullet point in "Other Immigration Status", you will see that your husband is eligible for OHIP after AIP. I would recommend calling Ministry for an answer.

Good luck!

Not until she get her OWP, which will not come until after stage 1 approval which will be roughly 11 months after the application was received.

Thank you SS.Kingston! Yes, it just came in the mail today. And yes, it took exactly one week.

I've seen some other people receive their OWPs in less than 7 days. Depending on where you are located I suppose.
