Hello everyone, Super newbie here! I am currently residing in the US and have been and planned to my entire life, until I feel in love with a Canadian almost a year ago. We both want to get married, especially so we can be together. I will be going to him since it is easier for me to get a job then for him to leave behind the work he has lined up to start this fall.

We have just begun to fill out the paperwork now. We aren't sure yet if we want to go Inland or Outland, but we could start the process earlier if we got married in a courthouse this summer in my state, but then had our major ceremony with family and friends early next year in a church. I really don't want to move there and not be able to work, and these work permits sound so confusing and can take a while to get. I wouldn't move to Canada with him though until after the church ceremony early next year (2014), which would give us around 7 extra months for immigration stuff to go through...

What are your thoughts on this?

Coming from the US, is it better to go Outland or Inland?

Any tips of things you ran into that could speed things up, or what not to do?

If you want to get married, start the process, then move after a formal ceremony later, you should apply Outland. Inland is really only for someone that is in Canada and will remain in Canada throughout the process.

Keep in mind, if you plan to move regardless in 7 months, there's a chance you won't be working no matter which route you take. You should take a look at Nafta and see if you qualify (Basically need a 4 year degree). http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/nafta-alena/index.aspx?view=d Nafta allows you to get a work permit without getting a LMO first, which is easier for the company hiring.

Also, if your application is approved by the time you want to move, there's a good chance you will be returned at the border if you arrive with a U-haul and all your things. It's better to "visit" until the application is approved.

Happy Easter everyone,

I have been going through the 2012 inland application threads and I realize that some people are so lucky, they are getting permanent status in 7 months. I hope they also go quick with our applications.

:) Hi Salsal31 - I sure how we can go through quicker than the 3 - 4 years some people seem to be delayed!

We leave for our trip to New Zealand on Wednesday to celebrate our wedding with my family - this is going to be our 'reception' - am so excited!

My app was received only a week ago, but no AOR yet. Hopefully soon...! :)

Hey Laura,

If you are applying through inland spousal sponsorship, it is highly suggested you don't leave the country... I am assuming you are traveling with your spouse? If you are traveling with your spouse, I think it would decrease the likelihood of you being rejected upon re-entering Canada. Depending on the immigration officer they can reject you from re-entering the country and it will forfeit your inland spouse permanent residency application and you will need to re-apply.

Also,

Just curious did everyone who got their AOR's, what does it say on your ecas when you check your application status online? When I check my ecas for my wife and I, it just says our applications have been received.... As in my permanent residency application has been received and my wife's application to sponsor has been received as well.... Does that mean they are processing her sponsorship application or does it mean it is just sitting on a desk and just waiting to be processed?

Thanks,

^ I'm not sure what it says for mine...in fact I haven't even logged in yet....would you mind telling me how to log in? I get to the proper web page but it gives me an error when I try to log in or says something like maybe my application isn't in the system yet, even though I got my AOR on February 15th...

Would you tell me exactly what you put to log in (maybe make up a fake name or something)

Thanks!

I put in:

Application/File Number: My file number
Name: Amikety
DOB: My date of birth
Country of birth: USA

My husband (the sponsor) can only log in with his UCI. He can't log in with the File Number. He gets an error like you.

I also have a Client ID# - but I haven't tried it yet.

I am assuming you are the applicant and your being sponsored by your spouse? He or she should receive a UCI number that is different than yours, in which you can see both applications, your application for permanent residency and your spouse's sponsorship application. You will need to type in his or her last name, date of birth, and place of birth. Once that's done you can login and see the status of your applications. Tell me what yours says cause mine just says "we have received your applications."

Hi Hockeyfan,
My sponsor application says in process since February the 8th, whilst my permanent residency states received application on the 17th of January. I am told that sometimes immigration does not update ecas. It would be better if you called immigration to find out current status.

All mine says when I log in is this:

"We received your application for permanent residence on January 22, 2013."

Check your spouse's, that's the superuser account where you can see the status of both your applications, "Spouse sponsorship application" and "your application for permanant residency."
