It's been a bit over 7 months since my AIP.

For those who are still waiting for 2nd stage approval, what do call centre agents and FOSS notes tell you?

In my case, my 'background check' has not been cleared according to call centre agents, and my 'criminality check' has not been even updated since October 2011 according to FOSS notes.

Can anyone please share your own reasons why your application is not finalized yet?

Should I be worried that my 'background check' is not completed at this time of the application? Can it be done soon?

May I ask what country you're coming from? I suppose the time might vary according the VO involved?

Its been 4 for us... June will be the eighth month mark

what do they check for in the background check?

They look for evidence of terrorism, gang activity, organized crime, war crimes, etc. These are not things that show up in a normal police report, but are important to the overall decision making process.

Right now, the processing times say 8 months for 2nd stage, so that's what I'm going with...

An organization known as CSIS does investigation; I'm told that RCMP also does its own investigation. What that means is they consult source of information OTHER THAN the police to determine if you might have involvement in any of these more shadowy activities. I've never actually heard of anyone being refused due to security, but I'm sure it does happen from time to time.

Today is an awesome day. My wife and I both received emails from CIC this morning. WE HAVE AIP!!!!!!!! YEAH, WAHOO, YIPPEE!!!
Let the beer train begin. Wolanila and Sandman, we will be celebrating soon and the best aprt is that Sandman gets to buy the beer. The first 2 rounds anyway!! We are a very happy family today!

THIS IS AMAZING NEWS!!!!!!

Well you can congratulate me now too sunsun My sponsor received AIP email today and I received one as well saying my open work permit is approved! This is a good wedding anniversary gift for us this February. I've been stressing out after reading of inland file transfers and horror stories, I'm just thankful we got first stage approval . God is good all the time.
