Mark_Anna, you guys should have sent it in from the beginning. It would have been much faster for you guys.

Just an FYI for everyone, I HIGHLY recommend to send in police clearances from any country that you have lived for more then 6 months over the age of 18. Even your home country. It will cut down the process should they request it.

I too, also recommend this. Especially with how they are usually giving applicants both AIP/PR at the same time.

That's what i thought too. Imagine i was living argentina where i had stayed 8 years and asked for the police certficate one week before leaving the country to make the most of it for validity, also because i could not apply inland in canada right away...(police certficates are valid 90 days from the date of issue, when you send them to vegreville) ....Then i sent it with my application for permanent residence 2 weeks before it expired....just in time.... and regarding the italian police certficates(for italy you need 2 different ones) i had them sent from my mother from Italy to canada and i included them at the same time with the application...i think i did good, now the ecas says decsion made so maybe it will be a direct PR(i hope so) and i know it is because of the police certficates that i included in the application

Well you misunderstand. It is recommended that you send them in and have them be received BEFORE 3 months have passed but the clearances themselves are valid for 6 months. Even then I think if nothing is wrong and hasn't been long since the 6 months have passed then sometimes they don't ask for a renewal. Sometimes it is all about luck and what the IO is looking for. Like my FBI clearance was just received before the 6 month mark but I can only hope that they won't ask for another one. I am hopeful they won't.

I had sent my police certificates with my initial application but later I found out that I had gotten the wrong ones. So when I received AIP, CIC requested me the right ones this time they gave all the instructions on how to get them.

I should have sent it earlier in the process but I am ok with it, I will be able to work soon and it will help me with the wait. Also I am not in a hurry to go anywhere.

Actually looks like you're OK on the sequence... Lovly20 is the one that was "out of sequence"

Hi Love_young, i copied and paste this info from the CIC website. it talks about police certificates:

"In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

If the original certificate is neither in English nor in French, submit both the certificate and the original copy of a translation prepared by an accredited translator with your application."

Thanks Inlandappl but I am aware of what it states as the general obligations but I also studied this process for 10 months before sending in the application. Now I do note that this particular thing is from the FSW guide but I can assume that the rules for police certificates aren't far off as I have had this stated to me as well before. Plus it makes a lot of sense.

"Please ensure that your certificates were not issued more than three months earlier. Police certificates are generally valid for 12 months from the date they are issued. However, if a final decision is not made on your application before the expiry of your police certificate, the visa office may request that you provide a new one."
