one other question guys

while we wait for the first part to be processed, for the province of alberta is there a way for my wife to get health coverage?

she wont have a SIN or anything like that.. i assume we will have to pay for any presubscriptions, etc until the PR Part 1 gets approved?
I dont know about AB, for BC my hubby applied with aip letter (first stage approval), we called msp today, they said he has to be in BC at least one yr.
For prescription drugs my employer covered medical, he got from my part. So check ur province and ur company first

Alberta defines your spouse as a "dependent" and thus she is eligible for health benefits. See: http://www.health.alberta.ca/documents/AHCIP-brochure-about-2011.pdf

BC has a requirement that there be an application for PR, but Alberta doesn't even seem to have that requirement. I know that I have read cases of spouses seeking PR who are given health care once they are in Canada and living with their spouse, so I would expect if she's with you she already qualifies for coverage. I know that this is NOT the case in Ontario (where it requires AIP) but health care is provincially administered.

Bottom line: your spouse is covered by virtue of living with you, an eligible AB resident according to my understanding of Alberta's health care law. Of course your experience may vary.

For those waiting for 2nd stage approval.

I called CIC, they said, they are waiting for officier to make decision on my case as everything is in line and my police cert is also attached and wondering how long more it take.

PS: got AIP in march, 2012 with police request.

Same here Missha, we got AIP on Feb 29th, they received all the document requested in April; our bfd was Aug 19th, i called and they said that they have everything they need now just waiting for a decision :( so frustrating..

I'm not sure who told you this (were you speaking with an enrollment specialist?) BC provides coverage to any spouse/dependents for whom there is an in-process PR application: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/pdf/covering-a-spouse-or-child-who-is-an-applicant-for-permanent-resident-status-in-canada.pdf

The "trick" here is that you must be able to demonstrate that you have an in-process application. AIP certainly does this, as does sponsorship approval for an outland application, but there are other ways of demonstrating this as well.

There is nothing that requires someone be in BC for a YEAR before qualifying for MSP that I've ever read.

Xxpazaway,

Good news for us, my wife just informed me we received in the mail her open work permit valid for 1 year.
On it it says: "application for permanent residency received initial approbation" (I guess it means AIP).
However we have still no official AIP letter in the enveloppe, lets hope it will follow soon as we need it for health card application.
I have a question regarding that OWP, there are 2 numbers one starting with a U and another with CC and both have 9 numbers following. Is any of these two actual SIN or do we have to apply separately for a SIN as she might already have a job opportunity...

Hey,

Just take the email copy u received where its mentioned that :

This letter refers to your application for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law
partner in Canada class.
It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident
status as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class......

I don't know if ur the person been sponsored u should have got 2 emails by now one if ur husband has sponsored u & one for
you { if ur the person been sponsored }
so please take the email copy {to service ontario } sent for the person been sponsored & 2 other pieces of identification : ur passport original + any rental agreement or something which can show ur residence in Canada. U will get ur health card approved from the date u got the email ..... & within 3 months u will get ur health card via mail!
Hope ths info helps u

Cheers

hey

For the work permit u need to take the copy of ur work permit which u received via mail to service Ontario & there u have to apply for ur SIN number they will do the
needful & within 10 days ur wife should receive a SIN number & then only she is eligible to work!

Hello Everyone
I have just come over from the POS forum as we are considering applying inland instead of outland, due to the fact that St. Vincent now needs a visa to enter Canada and my fiancee really does not want to leave Canada and me. He is here on visitor status until Jan 9, 2013. We are getting married Nov. 10, 2012 and applying immediately following. My questions are:

1. Does he need to apply for extension or just submit PR application ( I think he is considered implied then)

2. Are medical and security sent in with PR like they are in outland apps. I believe the security especially would expire before they even get to your file.

3. OWP should be sent in with PR

Thanks

hey
how far to my knowledge he needs at least a visitor visa to stay back while u apply for his PR ... regarding been on implied status I'm guessing that works too but u can
always call cic now & ask since Jan 20123 is not far... so u should make ur move fast !

its better to send in ur medical & security with ur PR application & of course definitely u should send ur OWP also why on earth u wanna waste time later
send all documents asap with ur PR application

Cheers
Ann

Hi there,
I'll suggest u have him get a visa extension, just so that he wouldnt be illegal, and send in all the requested info..security medical etc. Thats what i did and there was no problem..hope this helps.. I sent in my app july 2011 my 1st stage approval may 2012 and landed sep 12 2012...my application was straight forward
From experience its better to send everything in to avoid delays!! Good luck
3. OWP should be sent in with PR

Thanks

Hey Mingming,

Any news yet? I was thinking that our files got into the same officer hand maybe.
Did u apply for spouse or common-law?
Also what type of proof did u send if u don't mind me asking.

Thanks

Hi Militarywife,

I almost sent the same proof documents as you and my case is pretty simple.

I have called CIC this afternoon and she said there is no news in my file. )

Let me know if you get any news, Thanks!
