Hello all. After almost a year of applying, I finally got an information letter asking me to send my passport in.

Does this mean my PR application was approved? If so, I’m going to be so so relieved!
The letter asks me to also update if there is change in personal status such as marriage, common law, annulment, divorce, etc.

My significant other and I qualify for common law (which is not a thing in the US, but it is in Canada). The plan is I will be going and completing my landing if PR is approved and she will join me at a later date.

She is an American citizen. So question is: do I update my application now or should I finish getting my PR and then add her later on?

Thanks!

You didn't include her in your application? Did you at least note in your family information form that she was in a common law relationship with you?

You need to add her now. If you land without adding her, you could have problems. It will take 3-4 months to add her to the file.

You raise a valid point. However, she won’t be joining me for until about a year due to prior obligations.
So if I was to finish landing and then add her, how does one go about that?

You can't. If you finish landing, without adding her, you may be barred forever from sponsoring her, since she was never declared on your initial application.

Unless you added her as non-accompanying in your initial application. But if you didn't add her as non-accompanying, DO NOT land without adding her to your COPR.
