Hi all,
I am going to Toronto for 2 years study program.
Can I please ask a few questions:
a) If the course duration is 2 years, how many days in advance can I reach there? Let's say the course starts on 1st Jan 2016 and I reach there 1 month in advance. I will be given study permit for 2 years + additional 2 years post study work permit. Will this period of reaching there 1 month in advance be counted as additional period (over and above my total stay of 4 years)?
b) If I file e-visa, would I need to send my passport too for stamping? Or it's just a letter from the embassy that I need to carry for entering Canada?
c) Can I apply for study permit along with the visa application (from within India)?
d) Can my spouse apply for work permit from within India itself?
e) Is there any minimum duration for which we need to hold maintenance (living expense) funds and tuition fees in our account before applying for visa? e.g. For UK student visa, we need to have those funds in our a/c for a minimum of 28 days.

I know... too many questions :D but really looking forward to your expert suggestions.

Regards,
Rajni

u will be given study permit till ur admission letter says + 3 months to give u time for applying for PGWP(sometimes they dont give 3 months but u can extend later). study permit has expriy date so dont worry if u come early they will adjust it as they will beginning counting from the term date example jan for winter term. Just dont get here 6 months in advance 1-2 months is ok. ideal is 1 month early so that u dont have to spend more on living expense as u cannot work till u sem starts.

yes if approved they will request passport for visa stamping assuming u need a visa and ur not from a visa exempt country. U will also be give a letter which u will have to show at port of entry to get study permit issued. just to clarify there r two documents a visa (stamp/counter foil in ur passport) and study permit which is a document given at port of entry.

c) Can I apply for study permit along with the visa application (from within India)?
yes no separate visa application i believe

d) Can my spouse apply for work permit from within India itself?
yes if ur going as a student

yes its recommended 4 past months bank statements so u should hold the money for 4 months.
