Hey!

I wanted to visit some friends up in NL for a month and was wondering if the requirements were any different or not for me since I am an International student studying on a F1 in the states. I hold an Indian passport. Also, is purchasing a return ticket a good idea to make sure the application is not rejected? I mean, I still have a year of university in the states left, so that's major ties to home country right? Let me know!

Thanks!

Thanks! I guess this question has been asked to death here - but is a 1000 dollars/month enough funds to show? I will have already bought a ticket and am living in a friend's house, so no hotels.

@poster,

make sure you will be travelling during holiday period, or get a letter of consent from your uni if not on holiday, also make sure your duration of travelling is not higher than the holiday period.

from my own point of view, 1000CAD dollars is enough as a living expenses for one month, BUT, is that all what you have in your account? or its the money that you are keeping as a budget for your travelling expenses? from a logical point of view, if you have 1000CAD dollars, are your flight expenses money included? how much would be left with you afterwards if you come back to usa to continue your studies ?

I'm actually going to be on a personal leave from my university and will be going back to India after the Canada trip for the rest of the semester. I have already bought plane tickets to and from US and Canada and back to India from the US.

So, all that is left is living expenses - for which I'm going to show about 2000 dollars. How does it look?

you already bought plane tickets ? if yes, Is it a refundable one? 2000k should be fine, but make sure you attach much evidences that would demonstrate ties to usa and/or india. Goodluck

No I don't think they are refundable, but I bought them since I thought they would support my case. I have my university in USA (still 1 year left) so that's enough ties right?

Honestly? There's no guarantee it's enough ties. It's always a crap shoot applying from a country where you only have temporary status. I wouldn't say that school is considered to be a major tie because you can easily quit and/or complete your studies elsewhere. (Really strong ties are things such as a spouse/children left behind, a high paying job with a leave of absence letter from your employer, an extensive international travel history which demonstrates that you travel internationally all of the time and always return, a thriving and profitable business back home, etc.) But put together the best application you can and hope for the best.

Make sure you include a letter from your university confirming your enrolment and that you'll be returning to school on x date. If you've paid any school fees in advance, provide that proof as well. Include your US rental agreement if applicable. Anything that will demonstrate you have plans to return to the US to finish your studies.

I'm a full scholarship student, wouldn't it be imperative that I wouldn't just quit school like that? Plus I've a ticket that shows I'm going back to India at the end of my vacation and a document saying that I will return to school in January.

What you guys think - enough?

For the NYC consulate (since D.C. doesn't accept TRV applications anymore) is it better to submit the application in person or through mail? I feel I'll be pressed for time if I mail it in...
