About me:
I moved to Canada on a study permit in May 2011 to pursue my masters. After completing my course in May 2012, I have been working full-time with a Canadian employer in Calgary since June 2012. I currently have a work permit (and visa) valid until 2015. I am planning to apply for PR via the provincial nominee route in January 2013. I am single now and looking to get married soon.

My question:
Is it recommended that I first obtain my PR and then get married, and subsequently apply for sponsorship for my wife? Or should I get married before applying for PR and apply as married? How does being single/married affect the PR application process?

I understand the question is a bit vague, but so is my situation. I want to get married, but I want to ensure two things:
a. my wife doesn't have to stay in India for long after we get married, and
b. my pr application should not be affected in a negative way.

Any answers or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
RD

Being married shouldn't affect YOUR PR application, just be sure to mention your GF in it. You can't sponsor her until you are a PR yourself.

If you dont want your wife staying in India for too long after marriage. Then wait for your PR approval. You can't apply if your not a PR or citizen. For India, Usually the approval of spousal sponsership takes about 12 months. Hence, if you get married now, she will have to wait for a year + the PR approval wait....

If you get married before your PNP, she will be a dependant on your application and get PR the same time as you.

If you get married after, she will wait in India while her PR is in process and you must live in Canada to sponsor her.
