Good morning. I have 3 children from previous marriage, they are Canadian citizen. I re-marriage and in the process for my wife become a president permanent. I didn’t tell her about my past because my kids and I are not talking anymore. Will the CIC find out about my kids... I’m torn between telling her the truth now. Thank you

When you apply, if you leave the children off of your personal history at any relevant point, that's misrepresentation and can have very serious consequences - including possibly not being able to sponsor your spouse. You should assume that IRCC will find out about your children.

Now, whether your spouse knows or finds out: it's possible. It's possible she'd see the forms at some point. It's possible IRCC would, if an interview is required, refer to them - and find it a sign of a non-genuine relationship that your spouse doesn't knwo about them.

So: don't play with fire on this. Just tell your spouse. It won't be odd or unusual to inform IRCC that you no longer are close with your children or have any contact with them.

But trying to hide them from IRCC or your spouse is a very bad idea.

Thank you for your response. I feel very bad. My spouse is now on medical exam step. Does it mean my application got approve? I will find a good time to tell her.

No, medical does not mean it's approved. Although it does likely mean you were approved as a sponsor.

Did you submit any forms where you left this information out? You should correct them right away. Just explain in a letter that you are not in touch and thought it was not important as they are adults and citizens (ie not dependents) and you are not in touch.

Now I don't mean to overly scare you. If your children are adults, it's not necessarily material information. Just correct the omission. Better to correct yourself before it is discovered.

You left out some info like whether you are a citizen, when your children immigrated, etc. If they are not adults, though, it may be more sensitive and you should consider seeing a lawyer.

Note, I am NOT a lawyer or immigration specialist. It may be better to see if others have info on this. So don't act too hastily, as this is just one opinion.

But in terms of your spouse, just get it over and tell her. That's actually the easy part.

Medial is requested at an early stage of the application. This does not mean the application is approved.

Very strongly recommend that you correct the forms asap to add your children and fix the misrepresentation.
