I am a Canadian citizen who married a Pakistani, a country where chaos is the order of every Government office. Over there it wasn't a common practice to obtain/issue a birth certificate back in early 80's, so my wife's parents didn't get one. Later on in the 90's, they started issuing National Identity cards as a means of documenting the national of Pakistan and my wife's date of birth got entered wrong (off by 1 day). To apply for her immigration, we obtained her Birth Certificate as it is a requirement, it shows her correct date of birth --- so went having all the National ID records corrected based on that certificate and got a new passport issued. However, there are still some older documents (like her previous passport) that have the wrong date of birth and there is no way to eliminate that.
We sent in the application, delayed by 4 months as a result of the above hassle.
To what extent will the Canadian Immigration make a fuss about this issue? We already went thru a lot of running around between so many uncooperative government offices and have been delayed so long just to turn in the application. If the High Commission will make a fuss about it, we are afraid the procedure will extend even further and we will be kept apart even longer. Could some one advice me on this issue, someone who has experienced such a problem before or has knowledge of a case similar to ours.
Can we expect the High Commission of Canada in Islamabad to understand such problems exist in Pakistan or do we need to write them some kind of a letter to explain this mess? We tried to obtain a letter of clarification from the National ID database office & passport office but have been turned down by rude government official claiming it is not their business to issue such letters.
