Hi Everyone: I filed a CEC application in May 2012. I have been in Canada for 5 years and worked 4 years, I lost my job last year and could not get another one yet. I had a problem to pay my income tax in 2009 and filed in 2010 a tax relief application. To date, this application has not been processed (!), so I still owe CRA several 1000s.

I would like to know if this can lead CIC to deny me permanent residence? Does CIC cares about what applicant owes CRA?

Thank you for your help!

Hi you didnt pay your income tax? i dont understand. you are not self-employed?
anyway it takes while when you get your file processed.
just make sure you dont owe any money from CRA.

Hi Pouce, thank you for your reply. No I am not self-employed, I am a postdoc (post PhD), I was paid through a grant from my institute, so they issued a T4A. I paid my taxes every year since 5 years excepted for the year 2009 as I had huge unexpected spendings. So I filed a relief request so in clear I did not pay yet for 2009. My assessment, sent to CIC for the CEC show the amount due though, which is why I am worried...

But you are right, the time they process my application I might have found a solution... Hopefully...

MP immigration staff told me "most important thing is to pay your taxes", so get this resolved as soon as you can and let them know you resolved it.
