Does anyone know how long it takes between when an embassy receives an application and how long it takes for them to actually start working on it?

I am sure it varies embassy to embassy, but some guidance would be appreciated. Will my husbands application begin to be processed right away as soon as it gets to the embassy? Or is there a cue we would have to wait in?

Will his "In Process" show up on eCas? Will his embassy notify us when they receive his application, or will be left in the dark to worry and stress until some magic time months down the road when his embassy decides to call him for an interview?

Like you said, it varies. You can expect a final decision in line with the processing times on CIC's website, but apart from that it's impossible to say as every case is different, and every embassy has a different caseload.

The embassy won't notify you straight away when they receive the application, but they should send something when they start processing. At that time it should show up on e-CAS (both the sponsor's e-CAS using your client ID number from the sponsorship approval, and the applicant's e-CAS using his client id, or the immigration "B" file number they send with the notification they've started processing.

Best thing to do is try not to worry, and focus on keeping in touch with your husband rather than stress about the process. You've done everything you can for now; ball's in their court.

Thank you for your help, waiting is just so hard.

I am not sure I know what the "B" file number is. Is that something we will get later from Immigration?

B- file stands for Immigration File # just like this BXXXXXXXXX
Yeah it's something we got from Immigration in their first letter for us to confirm the receipt of our immigration application package. (AOR)

good luck....

you have to have more patience as this is only the start of your "journey" :) once you get an AOR, you will have your immigration file number- starts with the letter B and followed by 9 digits. it is only then that you could log on to e-cas to check the status of your application.

processing times is unique for each case and visa office. for the visa office, i guess it depends on the volume of applications they receive. if there is a queue then it might take longer. also e-cas i believe does not really reflect the true status of your application. i have ready in other threads that some have already received passport requests but e-cas still shows In Process.
