Hi Guys,

I'm Canadian PR and got in love with someone in India. We are planning to get married in Indian court. Now my problem is that I'm not clear if court marriage is acceptable in spouse sponsorship case. Because someone told me that we need to have ceremonial marriage done, have it video taped and do a photo album to make our case strong in front of visa official. But I'm sure circumstances wont let me have a ceremonial marriage in India.

Can anybody suggest me that would papers from Indian court be enough to pursue my sponsorship case?

Thanking you in advance.

If both of you are of Indian descent and planning on getting married in India, then just having a court marriage will be viewed with suspicion by CIC. They seem to feel that a large wedding ceremony is the norm in India and anything less will catch the eye of CIC (in a bad way). If possible, it is recommend to do some sort of ceremony.

What are these "circumstances" that you're referring to? And yes as mentioned, court marriages will be viewed with suspicion
