This comes across as an extreme surprise to me-whether its lost or stolen, I've been in india since last 17 months -before that i've always lived in Canada the last 9 years with just three 20-30 day visits to India in those 9 years, so I very well meet the residency requirements for PRTD.

I started this thread so that I can know which will be the best documents which prove my residency requirements in last 5 years stongly so that I can get the PRTD asap without any delays. Its important that I reach Canada asap so this is important to me that I give the precisely asked docs that dont cause delay/denial/appeal.

Here is the guideline for this under appendix A- https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...newal-change-gender-identifier.html#appendixA

  • You must provide copies of 2 pieces of evidence that can show you have met the residency in Canada in the five (5) years immediately before the application, or since becoming a PR if it has been less than 5 years. Some examples include:
    • employment records or pay stubs;
    • bank statements;
    • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment for the five (5) years immediately before the application
    • evidence that you received benefits from Canadian government programs;
    • rental agreements;
    • club memberships;
    • or any other documents that prove you met your residency obligation.

Facts:
Last 5 years means march 2021 to march 2026
- I have filed taxes for 2021,2022,2023. I am yet to file for 2024 but i can file in a couple of days( i was living in canada till 2024 october) - I lived in india entire 2025 not sure if I should file for 2025 or not.
- I was self employed/just doing renting like an agent/etc 2021 till 2022 December.
- I was employed 2022 December to 2023 june - However, i dont get along with the employer and might not be able to get the paystubs
- I have full phone bills from rogers from 2021 to 2024 and telus from 2024 to now- i dont have those but i can contact rogers/telus to get them I believe
- I can get bank statements

Things I think i muse send from the list they have mentioned above (other things too) :
1- I can get notice of assesment for 2021,2022, 2023 and soon for 2024 /2025 too- But for this case lets say i can provide for 2021,2022,2023
2-I own a small apartment under 100k since 2020 so ive lived there ever since, so I dont have any rental aggreemnt for that- can i send property tax assessment receipts? I can call city office and try to get PDF copies if at all possible. It was paid off so there wasnt any mortgage so cant prove it
3- I got another small apartment in 2023 which is still under mortgage i can provide mortgage copies of that property
4- when it comes to bank statements , do they expect every single months bank statement for last 5 years? They expect me to provide that for just one bank account or more than one?
5- Since i was mostly self employed and only employed for the half time, is it wise to send those things i dont even have them im in india and i dont get along with that employer either

I'm hoping someone can guide me precisely so i dont overgive the documents/justthe right docuements in my case so that I can get the PRTD asap.

If you’re confident you fully meet the residency requirement, keep it simple and focused:

  1. Bank or credit card statements covering the period you were in Canada (you can combine multiple months—e.g., up to ~24 months—into a single PDF).
  2. Rental agreements for the time you stayed, or alternatively, documents like Rogers/Telus phone bills showing consistent activity in Canada.
Don’t stress too much about overthinking it. They already have entry/exit records. If anything is unclear, they’ll typically ask for additional documents rather than rejecting outright.

Just submit two solid pieces of evidence that clearly show your presence in Canada.

Yeah file the tax and that would be solid proof.

So if you can do bank statements + taxes , or else the above like rental or cellphone bills.

If you are well above 3-4 months+ the threshold of 710 days, then they will approve instant.

my prtd case 2017-

Gave them bank statements/credit card statements and NOA (approved in 1 month)

Prtd case 2023 ( gave then bank statements and rental) approved in 1 day )

Current pr card renewal 2026 ( gave them bank statements and rental) approved in 7 days and waiting for pr card in the mail.

Good luck
