my wife is here in canada on visitor status from the united states. we can apply for an in canada application for permanent residency, right? also, on the document checklist, it says "copy 2 of the receipt form that has been stamped by a financial institution showing the amount paid (no other form of payment is acceptable)" but i thought you could just pay online?!!? why does it say that? could anyone else who applied in canada help?!? :(

You can also apply outland - which is faster.
Think before you jump :)

You can apply via the "Outland" application process even though your wife is IN Canada with you.

It's faster.
You can appeal a refusal (you cannot appeal an inland refusal).
You can leave Canada if needed (you cannot leave the country for ANY reason during an inland application process).

You can pay online. You'll get a receipt, print that up, fill it out, and send that.

we know that we can apply outland, and that it would most likely be faster, but we're not really concerned about that. we'd rather be together now than have to spend a few more months apart, and i know that an in canada app can take up to 1-2 years to finalize. but our situation is very straight forward, no kids, and no other complications at all. the thing is is that i'm white and she's muslim, and her dad didn't really approve of the wedding... so returning would be difficult for her. we're both young, in our early 20's. so we really want to apply in canada :/

She is in Canada already.
It is likely that you would not have to be apart, unless an interview was requested.

But it is your choice.

well, her visitor status expires in 2 weeks. we've already applied to renew it, 30 days before it was due to expire, but we havent heard anything back about that yet. do you really think they'd let her stay here if we applied outland on visitor status?!? if so that would be great. i'd like to just apply outland then apply to extend her visitor status for the tenure it takes for the PR app to get approved, but i dont wanna risk not getting the renewed status and thus inevitably she having to go back home. we'd have to apply outland before we applied for the extension, and i think the risk of getting denied is too great :/ :(

As long as you can prove you've applied for PR when you renew her visitor's status, there should be no problem with getting it approved.
