Hello,

I have been in Canada since 2014 funded by my government and this current semester (Fall 2018) is supposed to be my final one. The study permit expiry date was July 31, 2018 so I sent my application to renew on the 23rd of July. before a decision was made, due to some political issues, my government funding was cut in early August and I was forced to pay out of pocket for the first time. In mid September I was asked by IRCC in a letter to prove financial capability to pay tuition and support myself by October 11th.
Although difficult I organized a payment plan and felt satisfied that I was able to support myself through the semester. With my final semester half way finished, just today Oct13, they sent me a letter of refusal and in bold noted: you are a person in canada without legal status and as such are required to leave canada immediately. If you do not leave Canada voluntarily enforcement action may be taken against you.
What are my options? Can I appeal? what is the timeline. It's Saturday so I am having trouble reaching a lawyer.

Did you actually meet the deadline to update IRCC with the required information? Did the notification that you received give more details on the refusal decision?

I did meet the deadline and this letter did not provide reasons why. But the letter in mid September stated to provide more evidence of financial resources, seeing as they were most probably aware of my scholarship funding being cut. What I am thinking is they were expecting me to graduate in summer 2019, which was my original plan. I changed my major in September to be able to finish at the end of this semester (dec 2018). They probably saw that my finances would not last me for another 7 months. I just need to communicate this to them. I am only 1.5months away from graduating .

You need to talk to your lawyer regarding any appeal but you may also need to consider "Restoration of Status" as an immediate action. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ry-residents/visitors/restoration-status.html

You seem to be within the 90 days for restoration of status, the problem with restoration is you cant study or work while waiting for a reply which could take months and burn a lot of cash. You have to stop studying/working since you received this refusal.
Talk to your schools international office first then maybe a lawyer.

I will see. I can afford to do it, but I have paid over $9000 in tuition for this semester as of today and completed a lot of exams and assignments so it would seem like such a waste.
