What mechanical specifications are needed to make a car importable to Canada from the US?

I already know about daytime running lights, and would like to know what else needs to be added/changed to decide if it's worth getting done, or just sell it when the time comes. I currently have a 2006 model.

Probably not a helluva lot. I have a 2000 and needed nothing to meet the criteria.

sweet! thanks... not even daytime running lights? or was it just a simple flip of a switch? (according to my husband it's really easy to turn them on)

Why do not you Google?
"how to bring vehicle from us to canada"

i'm sure i will at some point, and my husband is searching too. i figured i'd get some good advice on the topic from an immigration specific forum.

I had daytime running lights. Just look on your dashboard, do you have one of the little 'eyes' that look like a small bubble anywhere? That is the light sensor and likely your car has one. Yes, you do need daytime running lights, but otherwise, the didn't look for anything much on my car honestly. When you get Form 2 there is a little checklist thing of items they are supposed to check. If your car is relatively new, which it seems to be and you haven't beaten it to death ;) it should be fine! :D If you want you can try to google the RIV Form 2 to see if you can get a peek at what it looks like to see what must be there and work.
