The lease should be enough. What's an "enhanced license"?
I don't know why I included enhanced license in this conversation lol. Anyways its a driver's license that works as a passport to cross from US to canada.

Sorry again. Lol

I applied outland for my Canadian spouse to sponsor me from the US. I tried to request from CIC something that said the date that they determined I 'was eligible to apply for PR" and they pretty much refused to give it to me. They said that it is for inland only. I only went back and forth with them once because I did not want to make them mad lol. Does anyone know another way I could go about getting this?

It's not CIC you need to talk to, it's the OHIP eligibility review committee. OHIP/OERC will then talk to CIC directly.

Hey Rob you seem pretty knowledgeable with the posts you reply with so thank you. I have read all of those and that is what caused me to request something from CIC. I guess my issue is that now I am waiting on COPR (hopefully very soon) and so I was guessing that I won't be denied but my waiting period will start now instead of August 8th when then began processing my application (or whatever date around there that they deemed me "eligible". I am assuming that I won't be denied but I just wanted to appeal the waiting period. Is it possible for me to file an appeal for that? How would I go about doing that? I have travel insurance but it ends in two months and I am just trying to avoid having to pay for more time if i am technically eligible for OHIP. Thanks

Did you read the threads? Bartjones explains the exact process of what you need to do, involving the OHIP Eligibility Review Committee.
After my wife was denied coverage at the Service Ontario Center I wrote to the OHIP Eligibility Review Committee (OERC) requesting a review of the Service Ontario representative's decision. The letter explained my wife's PR situation and enclosed the denial document as well as the letter I got from CIC approving me as sponsor.

I did read them. I guess I just assumed I could not appeal unless I had a denial letter. I will just write to them appealing the waiting period. Thanks

You would get a denial letter from any OHIP office where you initially try to apply to get OHIP.

I'm a little confused. Like Rob said, if you haven't already done so, you need to go to a Service Ontario office and apply for OHIP coverage. They will probably deny you. Get that in writing. On the back of the OHIP denial form there will be an address for the OHIP Eligibility Review Committee (OERC). Write to the OERC, explain your situation and request a review of your OHIP denial. The OERC (not you) will contact CIC directly to determine whether you have passed the eligibility assessment stage. If you have passed that stage, the OERC will send you a letter granting you OHIP coverage, effective 3 months from the date you passed your eligibility assessment. You can then take that letter back to Service Ontario who will issue you an OHIP number.

I am sorry if I was confusing. At this point, I am just trying to start my waiting time when they started processing my application, not when they approved it. It would only get me OHIP a month sooner probably. I will just let it go probably lol. I was just wondering how I would appeal the waiting period. I am guessing I will not be denied now because I am landed.

You would have needed to have actually tried to apply for OHIP before you landed, and gotten a denial letter. If you didn't try applyng and didn't get denied, there is nothing to appeal. Since you are landed just go now to get your regular OHIP. You'll need to wait the full 3 months, based on your landing date.

You should have no problem getting OHIP coverage now. They will probably make it effective 3 months from the date of your COPR.

You could appeal the effective date of your coverage using the same process but, as you say, it probably won't make a lot of difference if your timeline is accurate. It looks like you applied for PR in May and were approved in September. You might get OHIP coverage a few weeks earlier, but unless you have a medical expense during the waiting period, it's probably a waste of time.

Hi everyone,

so... I went to the Ministry of Health today and somehow I got OHIP from today.

At first they said it would be 3 months from my landing date, but then they wanted to see my husband's Sponsorship Approval letter (from March 2014). They also asked since when I've been in Canada. (Since March 2014)

Anyway they gave me a printout, and said the plastic one is in the mail.

I was quite confused, as I hadn't expected this. I thought I was going to get a denial letter so that I can appeal to OERC, or that they would register me for a health card that would be valid starting 3 months after my landing date.

Any idea what happens now? Is it safe for me to cancel my travel insurance? (They do refunds for unused months.) Or will they possibly review my case when they're sending me the plastic card and would they revoke OHIP for me?

You were eligible because:

1. You have COPR and have landed, and
2. You have been in Ontario since March 2014.

You're fine to cancel your private coverage. You'll probably get your OHIP card in about 2 weeks.

Hi everyone, I applied Outland via London in August and have just begin this OHIP appeal process last week, I went to a federal Service Ontario location, was issued a form saying I was ineligible, mailed it along with a brief cover letter to the review committee and am now waiting to see what will happen. Thank you so much bartjones for sharing your experience and allowing others to attempt this route! I will keep the thread updated if I do receive coverage before I get my PR. Best of luck to all!

The next thing you should receive is a consent form from the OERC which you should sign and return to them. Good luck with it.
