You’re still eligible for a PGWP if
So they are saying that your time after you apply will be counted. Even if you were not approved for a study permit. But if we don’t have aip then how we can start the online classes? So what’s the benefit of getting the time counted before approval?

  • you have a study permit or have applied or been approved for one
  • you can’t travel to Canada at this time due to travel restrictions
If you’re in this situation, you may
  • begin your classes while outside Canada, and
  • complete up to 50% of your program while outside Canada, if you can’t travel to Canada sooner
After you apply for your study permit, any time spent studying online from outside Canada now counts toward the length of a PGWP. (Before, only the time spent studying online after you were approved for a study permit counted.)

For this time to count, you must

  • complete at least 50% of your program in Canada
  • apply for a study permit by September 15, 2020, and
  • start, or have started, your program in spring, summer or fall 2020
You won’t have time deducted from the length of your PGWP for studies you complete outside Canada until December 31, 2020.

As far as what I understand from the newsletter it is okay if any student starts studying online even without an AIP but to make myself clear I personally feel it’s better to be safe to wait and start online studies after the visa arrives that is AIP. There is a risk no doubt. So no student would want to waste their time studying without an approval and then wait for it.

So I have applied for the permit in July but haven’t received an approval in principle (first stage) nor did I provide my biometrics. So when my program starts on Sep 1st, nothing will be deducted regarding the length of my program when I apply for the PGWP?

You don't need AIP before January 1 2021. Your studies will count for PGWP until then, with or without AIP.

NOt Agree, The sentence is that PGWP time will be counted before Study Permit Approved ( Not Before AIP ) So anyway we need AIP to start ... My view

then we can start online classes even if we don't have the study permit and still be eligible for PGWP? and later what-if study permit is rejected and our program withdrawal date also has passed? do you think it is fair?

Just to clarify that CICNEWS is in no way associated with IRCC . CICNEWS is a private website run by the same company that operates this forum so whilst CICNEWS is a useful information source the only official source should be the IRCC website

Incorrect.. As long as you have applied for study permit, the time spent studying online upto December 2020(as long as it’s less than 50%) will be considered for PGWP... Even if you get AIP later..

But what if you do not get AiP.... your time and money will be wasted. Will any college refund your fees? I don’t think so its worth starting anything before AIP.... in my opinion.

Yes that’s a risk.. It depends on the individual if they are willing and confident to take that risk.. But current rules allow you to start studying online(after applying) even if you haven’t received AIP and the time will be considered for PGWP
