VERY IMPORTANT question...please help! :o :o :o :o I want to contact my MP in Canada about my husband's application. I got my passport request on May 10th and on June 18th, it will be a month since my passport and other documents were received at New Delhi visa office. I want to contact MP soon, it that ok? I have heard that it can delay the processing and when they find your application to give your status to the MP, the application is taken out of line and put at the end? Is that true or not? or will it actually help for MP to contact and remind them to start working on my application? I am also outside of Canada in India now and is it ok to send a signed and scanned copy of my consent form for inquiry into my case my email to my MP? :o :o :o :o

more clearly...i mean my passport and other documents were received in ND office on May 18th and i am thinking about contacting my MP around June 18th, which is soon. my question is that is it ok to contact my MP one month later, since I have not heard anything about the status except application received?

thanks and good luck to everyone! :)

It is too soon to contact your MP. New Delhi asks for the passport very early on in processing, so it does not mean they are about to issue the visa, like it would in other offices. You should wait to contact the MP until more than the average time has been reached. New Delhi takes 6 months to process 80% of spousal PR applications, so you are well within the timeline.

From my friend who works on Parliament Hill and has experience with the immigration sector- Your MP can at the very least inquire about your status. They are able to do it even if application is within normal processing times. However, a lot of MP's either are inexperienced with this or are "lazy" to take on such requests. So, you are able to ask and they *should* be able to facilitate at least a status check. It's whether they want to or not, really. Also, your application will not go "to the end of the pile", so to speak. It falls back in que accordingly. Hope this information helps!

I agree with Canadianwoman...I really think you should wait before contacting you MP

thanks canadianwoman, muffy1 and pinder123 for your replies! yes contacting MP doesnt seem to delay your case in any way which is good. yes i agree it is a good idea to wait a little longer...most people contact MP within 1.5-2 months which i think i should do also. by then, they must have done some work on my case, so there would be some information to request im pretty sure. 6 months is a VERY long time (as we are together waiting in India, and i am suffering with the boiling summer weather) and my processing for sponsorship approval was already above and beyond normal processing time (96 days). i just want to confirm about any interview or additional document request or anything else. for many people, contacting MP was the only way they found out any information about their case after it reached ND.
thanks for your help and good luck to all of you :)

So are you in India right now...I am planning to go tooo...Miss my hubby but I think I need to wait to hear for my approval letter first from CIC and Also Ashunandal did you receive email or mail ....and did you receive letter asking for you spouse's passport or it was sent to India?????
thanks for your help and good luck to all of you :)

yes im in india now since end of january when we submitted our application. that is great that you are planning to come to india! are you PR or canadian citizen? only if you are citizen, you can go and visit your husband outside canada any time for as long as you like. yes we received a letter for my husband's passport request through email (applicant's email address).
good luck and hope we all get visa soon! :)

another question...I want to contact my member of parliament (MP) in Canada about my case. I am currently out of the country in India and intend to return to Canada with my husband when he gets PR. I know I have to sign and send a consent form (is it the one for use of a representative on CIC site?) to my MP. Is it ok to fill out the form, sign it and then scan it and send to my MP by email or do I have to send it directly to her by mail (the original copy)? Can I get my mother who lives in my house to drop it off on my behalf if I cant email it? If I scan and email does it have to be notarized? Also, does the consent form from sponsor go only to the MP or does the MP have to send it to CIC as well to be authorized to have information about my case? If anyone has any experience with this, PLEASE HELP!!! :o :o :o :o
thanks and good luck to all! :)
