Implied status when applying from visitor visa to work permit

Hello everyone, I want to know about maintained or implied status, as my father is in canada on a visitor visa and he is still maintaining his status as a visitor but has also applied for the work permit under the new policy which has allowed visitors to apply for employer specific work permit with LMIA , his visitor status is going to expire on 26 March as then six months will be completed from the time when he entered canada as a visitor, I want to know is his status maintained with his new work permit application as it has been submitted before his status as a visitor has expired or do he need to apply for an extension in the visitor status in a separate application as well.
