Thanks for the replies - much appreciated

Arowberry - can you please tell me when did you travel after you received your BOWP and did the border question you about your gap when you returned?

Thanks

My BOWP application arrived in Vegreville on 27 March 2014.
My second IEC visa expired 3 April 2014.
I continued working until I flew back to the UK on 7 May 2014.
I flew back to Calgary on 20 May 2014.

On arriving in Calgary, the border officer asked me about the purpose of my trip to Canada, as they always do. I said I've been living in Calgary for a couple of years and had received my AOR for my PR application. I said that I had applied for a BOWP, but didn't know whether it had been granted yet (as they mail the permit to you). I said that if my BOWP hadn't been approved yet, then I'd like to be admitted as a tourist until I received the permit.

The border officer looked me up in the system and saw that I had been approved for the BOWP. He noted the BOWP number next to the new immigration stamp in my passport.

I regard it as a normal, straight forward border entry. Nothing complicated, with no aggressive questioning. Just another decent experience dealing with a polite Canadian border officer.

Note: There is no 'activating' required with a BOWP; once it's approved, it's active.

Wow, that's pretty cool! Must've been great news to hear!

It was definitely handy enough, but I was confident that it had already processed based based on the "working on applications received on" information on the CIC website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

Thanks so much Arowberry for your information!

I'm hoping I get a response from CIC regarding my BOWP soon as it's been more than the avg processing time now.

I am a little bit worried that the border agent will inquire about the gap time between my old expiry date and new approved visa date (if I get it) when I leave the country and come back from vacation.

If you have your BOWP in hand, I highly doubt the border officer is going to question anything. That work permit will have already have been approved by the CIC; with that time taken into consideration. I don't think even the most over-zealous border officer would look close enough to even think of asking.

I received a new message today from CIC requesting additional documentation for my BOWP application and I am confused as to why they need it?

They requested PNP and Letter of invitation documentation - I did not apply for PNP and I am unsure as to why they need Letter of invitation from me for my BOWP application?

I am thinking of writing a letter to explain that I did not apply for PNP and either have my boss or a relative write a Letter of invitation for me but I couldn't find anyone who has experienced this in the forum?

Any suggestions??

Thanks

That is strange, but the CIC has done lots of silly things before. It almost sounds like they think you have applied for PR through Provincial Nomination Express Entry.

I would write a letter back to explain what immigration route you have taken to get your AOR, and include a copy of the AOR. It does seem particularly silly and I wouldn't be surprised if the immigration officer had made a mistake. Hard to focus on work in Alberta, with the weather so strangely nice.

Thanks Arowbery - hopefully it is what you have said!

Thanks so much!

Yeah! Received approval of my BOWP - now just waiting for it in the mail!!

Thanks for all your advice - much appreciated
