Immigration Status in TRV application for a US J-1 post doc

Hello, a friend who is a research scholar (post doc) on J-1 visa is planning to apply for a TRV to visit Canada for a couple of weeks. The application form asks to declare the immigration status in current country of residence (USA) as:

- visitor OR
- worker / business

In which category would be a J-1 research scholar fall into? Asking because J-1 is technically a exchange visitor visa, but the friend does get paid a regular salary similar to a full time employment because of the post doc position. Thanks!
