Hi All,

1. I am a software developer(database developer to be specific). What NOC code apply for me?

2. In the ministerial instructions, I found only this title closest to me: Computer and Information Systems Managers. Am I correct?

3. Lastly, when filling the forms, if something doesn't apply we are supposed to write NONE in the box. Which box is it? just one box or all the boxes of that section?

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. Your NOC code according to http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=software+developer is 2174

2. You mean NOC 0213 at http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=0213
You should look at the job duties of 0213. If your duties match that job, you can apply under that NOC. If they do not, then you can not apply under 0213 and can not apply as a skilled worker category 1, instead you would need a job offer and apply under category 2.

3. All the boxes that don't apply to you.

I think with this career, you need to be a manager to be eligible to apply. More specifically, a software development manager.

I thought it just had to be an IT manager, not necessarily software development manager.

are you guys suggesting that the NOC code 2174 will not work for me? It's matching my roles and responsibilities.

for ministerial instruction criteria, 2173 will not work.

It will not work for you if you want to apply as an FSW under category 1 because it's not on the list of the 38 "most wanted" occupations.

Your other options:

1. If your duties match closely enough to a manager which is on the list of 38, you can list yourself as a manager and apply under category 1

2. You can try to get a job offer (AEO) and apply under category 2.

Thanks Leon,

Is it ok if it's matching to some extent? I am not a manager but do some managing stuff as well. Also, can you please point me to the top 38 list? I really appreciate your help guys.

Top 38 are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list

The one you are looking for is 0213: Computer and Information Systems Managers

You can look at the NOC description at http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=0213 and look at how closely your duties match. If you believe it's a close match, even though your job title is not manager, the duties outweigh the title and you can apply. If immigration does not agree and returns your application, you will get your money back and can look for another way to apply.
