Hello, I have kind of a multi-part question I'll try to break down.

I currently live in the US, and am a US citizen. In the next several years I plan to marry a Canadian citizen, and am investigating immigrating to Canada. One of the primary issues we have found is the time period wherein I am unable to work, as my partner is not in a position to comfortably support us both. I realized that the assumption I may need to leave my current job may not be true, as Covid has made them a company much more open to remote work. So my questions are thus:

1. Is it legally possible to immigrate to Canada, be a temporary resident, permanent resident, and eventual citizen while maintaining employment with a United States company?
2. Is anyone familiar with the tax situation on such an arrangement? I'm confident I would be paying taxes in both countries, but haven't found details yet. I don't expect anyone to draft me an extensive essay as I'm sure it's a very complex situation, but any resources someone could point me to would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any help you can provide, and I understand these are broad and complicated situations, so if anything needs clarification or specifics, please let me know.

Thanks!

1. Your terms are a bit confusing here. Once you have immigrated to Canada, you will be a permanent resident and can work under any arrangement you want to. There will be no restrictions. If you come to Canada first as a temporary resident / visitor, you can work for your U.S. company remotely from Canada and without a work permit provided your employer has no Canadian customers / does no business in Canada.

2. It's not really that complex from a tax standpoint. You'll file taxes both in Canada and the U.S. Since you are American, you are obligated to file a U.S. tax return for the rest of your life regardless of where you are living. You will declare your worldwide income in your Canadian tax return. Assuming you file your Canadian tax return first, you'll declare any taxes already paid to Canada in your U.S. return to avoid being double taxed. If you run a google search you can easily find more information.
