My wife and I were married in March and I am here as a visitor to BC until I am approved. Visitation extension was sent in last month. We finally got our paperwork in around the first of June. CIC website shows receipt date of my app being June 8th with medical received. We are using a lawyer who was the head of IC Manitoba for seven years. He knows his stuff but won't give us estimates on timeframe because he doesn't want to put expectations in our heads. My wife was approved for sponsorship on August 8. Our lawyer said Buffalo had closed and my app went to Los Angeles. The current processing time is listed as ten months. Is that ten months from app reciept on June 8th or ten months from sponsor approval on August 8th?

the 10 months is for the 2nd stage approval, so it starts when she got her sponsorship approval (1st stage). I'm surprised an American is using a lawyer they are generally pretty easy on American/Canadian couples. anyways GL! the waiting is the hardest part.

The 10 months is after your wife gets the approval. If your marriage was straight forward (i.e. no major issues in explaining the genuinity of your relationship) the approval wont take 10 months. I applied from the states and mine took just more than 2 months. Of course i don't want to raise your hopes but it shouldn't take 10 months. Maybe this is too late, but you are wasting a ton of money on lawyer fees. The procedure is quite straight forward especially from the States. Pretty sure you and your wife could have handled it easy. But anyways...good luck and best wishes :)

cheers

Thanks for the input. I hope it doesnt take a full ten months so it offers me a little hope that some people are getting their PR sooner. My wife was the one who insistednon the lawyer. She knows someone who used him and wanted to make sure things went off without a hitch. I that we could do it on our own and she is realizing this now. In fact, we've thought several times "what are we paying for?". So $3500 in lawyer fees down the drain. I'm looking on the bright side though. Her parents also wanted us to use the lawyer and since they threw us a $30,000 wedding I'm not complaining too much. I do wish I'd done things myself. I have a squeaky clean background check, a college degree and the lawyer says my app has zero red flags. Hopefully it will get sent through once it hits a desk. She was approved August 8 and then online status it says "Application Received" but nowhere does it say "In Progress". If I click on the app received status it says medical report received. Does this mean it has yet to start processing? What are these application status reports people keep mentioning? Thanks for all your help!

When they start process your application it should change on E-CAS where it says application received should change to in process, it will have the same clickable link to the page that says your application was received XXXX your medical receieved there will be another line saying we started processing your application XXXXXX. My husband was accepted on July 23rd and mine went into process Sept 14th, then I received
e-mail for RPRF. So I am hoping to have PPR soon. we had straight forward case 13 years together 2 children... GL!

Good to know. If your app took less than two months after your spouse's approval then mine is probably nearing processing. Now that yours is being processed do you have any idea on time frame?

nope no time frame at all, just waiting like everyone else, next thing I expect to hear would be PPR request, since they asked for RPRF I am assuming they won't be requesting an interview... but who knows maybe the VO didn't want to do any work on the case until the RPRF was paid with CIC it could be anything :'(

Hello ! Im also coming from the states and we used services through David Cohen. I hated to waste the money but I was so confused on everything and just wanted it done. Not to mention I have 2 children and wanted to make sure everything went the way its suppose to. I just found out that they started processing our application on Sept. 17th. Ive heard that americans get through a lot quicker without problems but you never know. Heres to hoping !
