I'm a bit confused about the question 1 in IMM 5285:
1. When was the first time you met your sponsor in person?
- Date:
- Where:
- Describe the circumstances of your first meeting

- Did anyone introduce you to your sponsor?
- [ ] No
- [ ] Yes
- Who introduced you?
Here's my situation: My friend introduced me to my wife. We then talked on the phone, chat on the Internet, emailed each other for about a year. I (the sponsor) then went to the country where my wife resides to meet her. At the time we met, nobody was around us.

So what does the question "Who introduced you" really mean? Does it ask my wife who introduced us to meet the first time? If so, nobody introduced us. Or, does it ask her who introduced us to know each other in the beginning (a year before we met)? If so, it should be my friend.

Thank you very much!

Did you find out about your partner from a friend or just happen to meet her?

If someone said "hey you should talk to this person" then they technically introduced you. Juet put that on the form and then explain a bit later.

All its trying to do is determine how you met and whether things were arranged for the intention of marriage.

@Gary_87: Thanks for your reply. At the time we met in person, we had already known each other for a year. However, my friend introduced her to me a year before we met in person.

So just say that. Put the name of your friend who inteoduced yoj and attach an explanation saying how and why they inteoduced you.

I agree. Just explain as you did here that your friend introduced you two online, and one year later you met in person. Whenever a question doesn't quite fit your circumstances, you can attach a separate sheet of paper to the form to explain in more detail.

Can I follow up on that and ask to clarify what we should do? We met at a pub, our now mutual friend took him and another guy from her department out and texted me to join them (I didn't know either of them). At the time i was still officially married, so she intriduced us but just as workplace friends. Everything evolved since then, of course, but she didnot on purpose introduce me and him specifucally (she and i are good friends and shw just felt awkward with two guys on her own), she dudn' t intriduce us for any coyple-related purpose either, but she did, in the end, introduce us. So should we say 'yes',give her name, and then in the descriprion ofhow the relationship evolved describe what i wrote here? Or explain on a separate sheet in reference to this question only?

I would just pick the first person who introduced you to start with. I met my husband in a pub too - and in a country neither of us were living in. We were introduced by one of two friends (we think). Problem is that none of us know which friend actually introduced us because there was too much alcohol involved. We were introduced very casually (not with the intent of pairing us up) and we barely talked. We didn't actually start dating until over a year later (after running into each other again in a completely different country).

I would just describe the bar meeting as you did here (well, with a bit more detail and the names). It was an introduction, so there is no harm in mentioning it. The fact you weren't being introduced as potential romantic partners doesn't matter. Of course, if you were being introduced as potential partners, that should be mentioned.

Saying no one introduced you would also be OK (because of the casual nature, and because the person wasn't trying to set you up), but I would still describe how you met.

Ok, we will definitely describe how we met in detail, and i guess then we can say 'no' to 'did smn introduce you' but do say that we met through a mutual friend? Or do we say 'yes' and describe, thus making clear it was for no romantic reasons at the time?

On second thought, I think we will say 'yes' to 'did anyone introduce you' and just explain like I did above, with more details (although like you, scylla, we barely remember, it was 5 years ago, we didn't know we'd need to remember lots of details - although I remember quite a bit because it was love at first sight! - and we were a bit drunk ;) ). So I think we'll just go with that.

A quick question: as with many questions on each of the forms it will be necessary to attach a separate sheet to explain some things or describe in more detail, how do we go about that? Do you guys type in everything, include your name and UCI (I have one because of my work permits, am I going to get a new one or can I use the one I have? ), and something else as well? do you then sign it? both of you, one?

And - do you write in the box in the form - answer on separate sheet? And do you then attach the separate sheets to a given form immediately after the form in the package, on top of the next form in line, or do you leave them all in the end of the file/package?

on any additional form write your name, DOB and the form number it is in reference to, and also the question number.

if something is on a separate sheet write (continued on separate sheet) after it.
